Home for a minute or two and then…

We all just got back from a truly excellent time in the river city with the other Boyd familly! Most times Liz and I start to get tired of vacations after about a week away. We like our bed and the comforts of home and an unfamiliar place gets tiresome to us. Must be getting old or something. Anyway, none of that this time. The bed was great so plenty of sleep and then of course grandma grandpa and aunt Megan were on hand for free child care! Not to be underestimated! Everything was great! Liz and I even got a date night. Everything was bad except for the company! We still had fun just next time we will take more care and not go to a movie called the hangover part three which will not even get a review from me. Lets just say it sucked. The same joke three movies in a row just doesn’t work.
We are home now but are heading back east in mid July for a week at the beach and our one year anniversary! This is gonna be better than date night for sure!!!
Now of to figure out plans for said anniversary!
Bye y’all!

My daughter can bend pipes in her bare hands!!!

But seriously she was very helpful when daddy was redoing the plumbing in the new bathroom. Then mommy reminded daddy that Rosie should not be chewing on 1/2inch supply line. After that she went back to supervising!

9PM

The great bathroom remodel is complete!
All DIY and it turned out great! New floor, paint, vanity, mirror, sink, light fixture and switches. Liz and I make a great team!

…and the wife wants me to point out that it isn’t *completely* complete- perhaps you noticed that the mirror glue is still setting so it is still being braced with a little piece of wood (I didn’t…oh well)

In the continuing saga of my awesome wife…

Before we get to that… Look what came in the mail today!

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a New 52: Batman #1. To most of you that probably means absolutely nothing, but to comic nerds like me it’s a big deal. I LOVE Batman. He is easily my favorite comic character! This comic has the added bonus of being the start of a really outstanding story line and is worth about $50-60 depending on where you look and the condition. Next month I plan on sending it off to get evaluated and rated and then put away for a long long time. Maybe I’ll give it to Rose when she graduates college or gets married or has her own kids. And did I mention that I love collecting batman stories? This will look great on the shelf after it gets back from the appraiser and is tightly boxed up!
So yeah… That’s pretty cool!

On to the part about how rad my wife is! Father’s Day is coming up and she gave me part of my present early today! Here it is!

She made that herself! Once again to the non-nerds out there, on the back is a quote from one of my favorite books, Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein. The main character is a Sergeant in the “Mobile Infantry” (hence the MI) and On the Bounce is their unofficial motto (meaning be quick). In case you were wondering dear reader, this is about the coolest present I could have ever gotten. It looks totally rad and it’s all homemade and one of a kind!! I can’t wait to show this off to the other nerds!
Speaking of homemade, we are all heading east next week to see the rest of the Boyds! My sister Megan is getting married in September and Liz made her and her guy Casey an engagement present!

A word cloud of all their names and important dates and stuff! Isn’t that just the coolest thing! Megan is gonna flip when she sees this!
I have some more stuff to post but that will be separate. That’s all for now!

Having trouble deciding what to write about…

Hmm. We are traveling to Richmond to see the east coast Boyd’s next week.
Hmm. We are almost done with the upstairs bathroom. Pictures and a full report to follow when it’s completed.
Hmm. Ted has been having trouble with his little league baseball playing this season.
Hmm. Me and Liz are planning on getting new tattoos. Not matching or anything.
Hmm. That’s a bunch of stuff that I could write about but none of it is really coming out tonight… Guess I will leave it alone for now and wait till some of these things mature before posting them. As usual though I love my family and my life is completely rad! I can’t wait till tomorrow!

We are remodeling the upstairs bathroom and the master bedroom closet.

Rose loves bacon!! This was one of the first things that Liz gave me when we started dating. And it is now obvious why I love her!!
In related news, we started our next project yesterday! Remodeling the upstairs bathroom! I’ve got pictures but my photo stream is crapping out on me so they will have to wait. So far I ripped out the vanity, mirror, cabinets, moulding and linoleum. Next is prepping for a new coat of paint, then replacement of the flooring, vanity and mirror. Some nicer shelves and a plumber to fix the shower! This is fun! I love demolition work!

Oz, the loss and return of a great cat

My relationship with our cat Oz is apparently somewhat deeper than I thought. Frankly, I’m not particularly fond of him most of the time. I’m not openly hostile or anything, just indifferent. In fact, I usually only notice him when he is causing trouble. After he turned up missing this weekend, though, I discovered that I actually missed the little pain in the ass. He had followed us around for a walk on Thursday night, like he usually does, but then we didn’t see him for almost 2 days. (Yes, our cat goes for walks with us- he is a bit strange). After actually worrying about him, we made up signs and canvassed the neighborhood in an attempt to find him. Fortunately, one of our neighbors saw the flyers and called to say she had him (apparently she saw him just walking along and, naturally, thought he was lost).
We got him back today and put out some new fliers to let everyone know that he is our cat and to feel free to feed him and let him be. I’m no longer worrying about him and am back to pretending he doesn’t exist. Everything is as it should be!
3PM

Well… That was interesting.

Wow… Now that was a strange weekend.
It all started with a wedding. Liz and I were skeptical about this one. The bride was Catholic, which meant we were anticipating a two hour ceremony with incense and all. My personal opinion is that a wedding should not exceed 10 minutes under any circumstances, but I digress…
We are on the western edge of the Eastern time zone, so even though we only drove 2 hours to get to the wedding we crossed over into Central time. This was confusing enough for us that we ended up being 10 minutes late for the wedding. And as it turns out, that caused us to miss all the boring parts and just got to see the sweet stuff - shortest Catholic wedding ever!
Since we were all gussied up, we decided to get a pic of the entire family!
And here is one of Ted getting in a game of Catan on the way to the chapel.

We also had low expectations for the reception, given that both the bride and groom and major introverts. Instead, their genuine geeky enthusiasm for life was infectious and everyone ended up having a kicking good time. Bride and groom were looking excellent and everybody was up dancing. Even Ted, with a little help and inspiration from me.

Oh and here is me being dumb and goofy with the love of my life!

The party drew to a close and we loaded up again to head to Chicago and the home of one of Liz’s friends. They were nice enough to let us stay with them and spend the weekend. Unfortunately, however, this part didn’t turn out how we expected either. Now they are two great people, but the combination of their 2 and 4 year olds with our 8 year old and infant was just a little too much for us to bear. We are apparently getting curmudgeonly in our old age, because the lack of sleep and hectic environment made us, as my wife would say, “cranklepants”. Honestly she was on the verge of a panic attack, so we decided to pack it in and head home easly.
The visit wasn’t a total bust though. In fact, we toted the kids to the museum of science and industry and got to see the awesome WW2 German u-boat they have on display. I still love Chicago, but from here on out I think we will stick with day trips. And of course there is this…

How could a weekend not be considered a success when you come home with one of those? Still, we are all very happy to be home! The next trip will be better: Richmond, Va to introduce Rose to her great grandparents for the first time!!

Happy Memorial Day!!!!

Sleep

I am amazed at how fast my body adapts. Rose has been sleeping through the night for almost a month now but last night she woke me up at 4am. I was exhausted this morning and I have been exhausted all day. Before she was sleeping all night Liz or I were up every two hours to feed her. I could have the night shift and get no sleep and still be sharp all day. I have worked some long days that turned into weeks in the Marine Corps with even less sleep than that. But it seems one month of glorious uninterrupted sleep is enough to make me lazy again.

I have noticed since my baby was born that the easiest place to sleep is holding her in my arms or resting on my chest. The hardest place to sleep is two feet away from her. Every tiny sound she makes rouses me from the deepest sleep. Then when I’m awake I watch her baby snore for at least another ten minutes before I would get back in bed.
But those ten minutes watching her are well spent. Her sighs and snoring will never get old to me!

9PM
Daddy beat Call of Duty Black Ops 2 today!! Good work daddy! You get those bad guys!!

Rose has the strongest abs in the world! She was kicking like this for about 15 minutes. I tried to keep the other day and could not even come close! The end is kinda gross for anyone that does not have kids…

Hello world! I would like to introduce you to Rose Margaret Boyd. She was born on February 19, 2013.
